Brandon Olivares

Hey, my name is Brandon Olivares, and I’m a web engineer at Oomph.

I started programming probably around 2001 or so. I had just been learning how to use a computer, and had the question, “I wonder how these websites work?” So I started learning HTML, JavaScript, and pretty soon branched out into PHP. I spent the next several years learning a few different languages: C/C++, C#, a bit of Ruby, and so on. But I always came back to PHP.

I started freelancing in 2005. I also learned server administration, got into web hosting for a while, and just generally learned all I could. Around 2008, a friend introduced me to Symfony, which I immediately fell in love with. That’s probably when I grew the most as a programmer, because it introduced me to design patterns and proper coding standards.

Outside of work, I’m a life coach teaching people how to achieve their goals. I have a master practitioner certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, which allows me to help others to change their thinking. I’m also trained as a classical pianist and even studied music performance for a while in college. I love to read and learn about anything related to finance, including investing and crypto currencies. And, of course, I enjoy spending time with my wife Christine and our two cats.

I love to pet my cat when I am working.
When I was 5 years old I learned how to play the piano.
Reddit is my absolute favorite website because you can find pretty much anything on it.
