The RISD Museum’s new website was nominated as part of the 23rd Annual Webby Awards for Websites: Best Visual Design — Function. The Museum site was chosen as one of the five best in the world in its category and among the top 10% of all work entered. The 23rd Annual Webby Awards received more than 13,000 entries from nearly all 50 states and 70 countries worldwide. Oomph is very proud to have been part of this redesign and replatform effort.
The other nominees on our category were projects from LEGO, Planned Parenthood, YouTube, and Medium.com — a great group to be associated with! During the voting period for the People’s Choice Award, the RISD Museum was out ahead for 2 weeks until the LEGO project surpassed it in votes during the final 2 days.
While The Webby Award is chosen by the Academy panel, The Webby People’s Voice Award is voted on by the public. Over 3 million votes were received by about 1 million users across the entire collection of nominees.
About the Webbys
Established in 1996 during the Web’s infancy, The Webbys is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) — a 2000+ member judging body. The Academy is comprised of Executive Members—leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities — and Associate Members who are former Webby Winners, Nominees and other Internet professionals. Reflecting the tremendous growth of the Internet, The Webbys now honors excellence in 7 major media types: Websites, Video, Advertising, Media & PR, Social, Apps, Mobile, & Voice, Games, and Podcasts.
An impressive list of IADAS members can be found on their website.
About the RISD Museum and Oomph
The RISD Museum and Oomph partnered on a redesign and replatform of the website in 2018, with a launch in September. The Oomph team provided strategy, information architecture, wire framing, and development while the RISD team delivered the final design interface. It was a collaborative effort, and we are both very proud of the results (more about the process in our portfolio). Acquia is the hosting partner for the Drupal 8 site and Museum Plus is the object management system that the site integrates with.
